We are working with a number of Italian family-owned, artisanal wineries to represent them to both the wine trade (restaurants, independent liquor/wine stores, etc.) and directly to the consumer through tastings and other venues.
Listed below are five special wineries that we have enjoyed. We have sold many of their wines through DevineWine, our wine store in Landstuhl, Germany, for several years.
Terre di San Venanzio Fortunato is located right next to the most prestigious and renowned Prosecco DOCG, the Cartizze. They have an extensive selection of Proseccos from Extra Dry to Brut and from Treviso DOC to Valdobiadenne DOCG—including a Rosato—to Cartizze DOCG.
Azienda Agricola OTTOMANI is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico region. They produce a variety of wines using Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino, Ciliegiolo and Malvasia Nera for their red wines and Trebbiano and Malvasia Bianca for their whites. Since beginning 15 years ago they have used organic-biodynamic cultivation and winemaking techniques, without synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilizers and to operating exclusively with environmentally sustainable agronomic methods.
Fattoria San Francesco is located in the heart of the Cirò production area where the production and traditions of wine go back to before the Greeks inhabited this area over 2,500 years ago. This is the home of our favorite rosato—Donna Rosa.
Tenuta Iuzzolini is also located near the town of Cirò. With a history of making bulk table wine, the family has been a leader in Calabria transitioning to producing high quality Calabrian wines true to the use of indigenous varieties and traditional values. Like Fattoria San Francesco their white, rosato, and red wines are made primarily from Greco Bianco, Gaglioppo, and Magliocco Their efforts have had a significant impact on the quality of Calabrian and Cirò wines.
The Gambino Viniwinery is located on the northeastern slopes of Mount Etna, an active volcano overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The unique climate and soil conditions of this vineyard is a perfect setting to produce some of the most exquisite wines.White wine grape varieties include Carricante and Catarratto while their reds are made from Nerello Mascalese and Nero d’Avola. They have a fantastic wine tasting room and experience…don’t miss it if you are ever in Sicily.
